Background

Kappa Delta Pi was founded by William Bagley, Truman Kelly, and Thomas Edgar Musselman in 1911 at the University of Illinois to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. KDP is the champion for future and new teachers from campus to classroom and delivers guidance and solutions to issues facing teachers across the United States, while maintaining a global perspective. Above all, KDP is a reliable and research-based source of best practices for the teaching field as a whole.

Kappa Delta Pi members keep good company. Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Margaret Mead are just a few of the historically known members. To this day, the honor society is comprised of more than 50,000 members.

Requirements for Membership

  • Invitation only
  • Undergraduates: Enrolled in or entering education program (3.0 GPA)
  • Graduate or Post-Bac: Completion of 6 hours (3.25 GPA)
  • Intention to teach
  • Local Chapter Membership Application
  • National KDP Membership Application

Steps to Apply

  1. Receive a letter of invitation.
  2. Complete the National KDP online application There is a fee of $71.40/year or $5.95/month
  3. Complete the online Rho Eta Chapter application and pay $15 dues.
  4. Attend the initiation ceremony. (Honor Cords will be available for purchase.)
