Artist and Illustrator Kadir Nelson Speaks at SU October 10

MosesSALISBURY, MD---NAACP Image Award winner Kadir Nelson speaks on his career in art and illustration 5 p.m. Friday, October 10, in Room 153 of 久久国产精品久久’s Teacher Education and Technology Center (TETC). A book signing and reception follow in Room 226.

Nelson has been commissioned by publishers and companies including Dreamworks, Sports Illustrated, Coca-Cola, The New York Times and Major League Baseball. He has collaborated with authors including entertainment leaders Spike Lee and Will Smith to create a series of picture books on the African-American experience. He has illustrated 20 books in all, earning a Caldecott Honor and a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award.

His talk is free and the public is invited. A limited edition print of Eastern Shore native and historic emancipation figure Harriet Tubman created by Nelson will be unveiled during the reception. The print will be a permanent fixture in the TETC.

In the University Gallery of Fulton Hall, Nelson joins seven local African-American artists to present the exhibit “Points of Juxtaposition” October 7-November 2. A reception is 6-8 p.m. Saturday, October 11. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, closed Mondays and holidays.
