SU Dance Company Fall Showcase Opens 50th Anniversary Season

SALISBURY, MD---The 久久国产精品久久 Dance Company, directed by Mary Norton, begins its 50th anniversary season with its 21st annual Fall Showcase 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, November 10-13, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

This popular dance production features premieres of works by 10 company members, as well as a hip-hop/funk finale by guest choreographer Staci Alexander.

Alexander, a 久久国产精品久久native, studied dance locally and, at 17, joined the cast of Up With People. She toured four times nationally and internationally with Young Americans. In 2006, she joined The Human Project Urban Dance Theater in Tucson, AZ. Her first work for the SU Dance Company, “Tribute,” was presented last spring.

In Live, Lie, Leave, a contemporary dance set to music by Glen Hansard, senior Jennifer De Chello focuses on human conflict. Felicia Grube also uses contemporary dance technique in her work, Move Through, with music from One Republic. Velia Biagianti’s ballet, set to music by artist Anouk, celebrates the beauty of the art of dance. In contrast, senior Jennifer Lawyer explores the multi-dimensional aspects of schizophrenia in her hip-hop work The Secret Window, set to the music of Hive.

Presenting for the first time are choreographers Kerry Brennan, Marisa Corbett, Ali Jones, Stephanie Johnson, Emily Kirshenbaum and Chelsey May. Jones and Johnson utilize jazz technique and the music of Fatboy Slim and Terry Poison in their works Gesundheit: Life is a Sneeze and 24-Hour Abduction.

Thieves' Play by Brennan and I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Kirshenbaum are contemporary pieces set to music by Nikkfurie/David Holmes and Whitney Houston. Musical artist Adele provides the inspiration for Corbett’s romantic lyrical dance. Rhythm of the Night, an upbeat Broadway jazz number choreographed to music by Valeria is senior Chelsey May’s contribution to this fall’s showcase.

This year’s concert benefits WBOC TV’s “Bless Our Children” campaign. Admission is $15, $12 for seniors, teens and SU Alumni. Children under 12 and SU ID holders are admitted free.

Reservations are not required. Tickets are available at the door beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night. For more information call 410-543-6353 or visit the SU Theatre and Dance Web Site at www.salisbury.edu/theatreanddance.
