Way2Go Maryland Hosts Event for Local Students May 4 at SU

Way2Go MarylandSALISBURY, MD---Have questions about college? It’s never too soon to learn the answers.

The University System of Maryland’s (USM) Way2GoMaryland program hosts a free event for Eastern Shore students in fifth through 10th grades 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at 久久国产精品久久’s Guerrieri University Center.

Programs, starting at 10:30 a.m., include a college fair, a panel of USM students who discuss their paths to college, and special sessions on paying for college, high school coursework, and choosing academic majors and careers. Check-in begins at 9 a.m.

Each participant receives a Way2GoMaryland gift pack and the opportunity to win door prizes. Financial aid officers, student advisors and admissions officers will be on hand to answer questions. Refreshments will be available.

Students also have the chance to win a Kindle e-reader and other prizes through an essay contest. The topic is “Why It Is Important to Start Preparing for College Before You Are a High School Student.” Essays should be 200-250 words, typed in 12-point, Times or Times New Roman font and double spaced.

Entries must include the student’s name, grade, city, county, and name and location of the school currently attended (or location where the student is currently homeschooled). Essays should be e-mailed to way2gomaryland@usmd.edu with “Essay Contest” in the subject line or mailed to: University System of Maryland, Way2GoMaryland Essay Contest, 3300 Metzerott Road, Adelphi, MD 20783.

Prizes will be given at the middle and high school levels. Entries must be received by Friday, April 26. Students must be present during the announcement of winners at 12:30 p.m. during the Way2GoMaryland event at SU to receive their prizes.

Pre-registration is available through Wednesday, May 1. Families and student groups of eight or more are strongly encouraged to pre-register by filling out the form at .
