Weston Named New General Manager of Public Radio Delmarva
SALISBURY, MD---From microphones to management, Gerry Weston is no stranger to radio. Soon, he will be no stranger to the Delmarva Peninsula, either.
Weston becomes the new general manager of Public Radio Delmarva on July 1, filling a vacancy open since the retirement in December of long time general manager Fred Marino.
“We’re going to have some new blood in here and see some new ideas,” said Bruce Blanchard, who has served as acting general manager since Marino’s departure.
Weston began his radio career in 1975 at WLOM-FM and WVLC-AM in Orleans, MA, serving as sports and program director, as well as a show host. He moved to Louisville, KY, in 1980, spending more than a quarter of a decade in production and management.
He implemented jazz programming at WFPL from 1980-1985 before moving on to become general manager of WFPL and its sister station, WFPK. Most recently he spent 12 years as president of Louisville’s Public Radio Partnership, supervising a $5 million capital campaign to construct new state-of-the-art facilities.
“I’ve always loved radio,” said Weston. “I am very excited to be coming to Public Radio Delmarva. I think the work WSCL and WSDL do for the community is great, and I can’t wait to be part of the team.”
Public Radio Delmarva began broadcasting as WSCL at 89.5 on the FM dial on March 29, 1987, from studios at 久久国产精品久久. In 1998 WSCL added a repeater station, WSDL, (90.7 FM), with a transmitter in Roxana, DE, which broadcasts to Atlantic coastal resort communities. In 2004, WSDL changed its format to news/information and talk, featuring programs from National Public Radio, BBC Radio and other sources.
WSCL and WSDL are heard throughout Delmarva with a listenership of some 36,000. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
