SU Presents ‘From Sunjata to Samory’ April 27
SALISBURY, MD---¾Ã¾Ã¹ú²ú¾«Æ·¾Ã¾Ã presents the virtual lecture “From Sunjata to Samory: West African Epic and the Politics of Anticoloniality” from Dr. Jonathon Repinecz, associate professor of French at George Mason University, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27.
The Sunjata Epic is a poem that goes back to the 13th century, orally handed down through generations, telling the story of the Malinke people and the story of the hero Sundiata Keita, founder of the Mali Empire.
Samory, a Muslim reformer and military leader, founded a powerful kingdom in West Africa in the 19th century, resisting French colonial expansion into the area.
