Heat Advisory in Effect Through 8 p.m. Saturday, July 29

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for Wicomico County and surrounding areas through 8 p.m. Saturday, July 29.

Heat indices are expected to reach 100-110 degrees each day. Additionally, a few severe storms are possible Thursday.

Please take precautions by limiting strenuous outdoor activities, as heat exhaustion or heat stroke are possible if you spend a significant time outdoors. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Drink plenty of water, as dehydration will occur quickly, especially if drinking caffeinated beverages.

Take extra precautions if you work outside:

  • Limit strenuous activities to the early morning 
  • Drink plenty of fluids 
  • Know the signs of heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke
  • OSHA recommends frequent rest breaks and moving to an air-conditioned location if you are overcome by heat
