Guerrieri University Center Art Space Presents 'Strange Energy' January 12-February 28
SALISBURY, MD---The Guerrieri University Center Art Space hosts the exhibit “Strange Energy” by 久久国产精品久久 senior art major Samantha Brekosky from January 12-February 28.
Having grown up in Frederick, MD, Brekosky is pursuing her B.F.A. in graphic design while taking upper-level painting courses. Her current focus is illustration. She plans to pursue a career in the field after earning her degree.
“I have always believed that perception constitutes reality, and in this vast and chaotic universe, everyone’s perception is warped by their experiences,” she said. “My work is an exploration of my distorted perception, navigating the continuous emotional struggle of living in a world burdened by both horrific tragedy and fantastic wonder.
“My works serve to realize alternate universes, familiar yet existing just outside the confines of our limited senses. I create these spaces where I can mediate on the relationships between figure, nature, structure and the mystical phenomenon I refer to as ‘otherness.’ I utilize the female figure both because of the spiritual connection to nature that exists within the female body but also to create narratives that bespeak feminist struggles.
“Abstraction also is a part of my work, emphasized when I seek to comment on specific instances in non-literal ways. Symbolism of the house is important to me in exploring the relationship between structure, nature and figure.
“The hands-on processes of painting, illustration and printmaking allow me to directly confront personal experiences or events that I have witnessed through the distortion of mass media. Through these somewhat unforgiving mediums, I am forced to work and rework, giving me mental space to consider concept and theme.”
The Art Space is located in the Guerrieri Center’s second-floor concourse. Admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6247 or visit the Art Space website at /guc/artspace.
