Maloof Selected for Cascade Mountain Residency

Dr. Joan MaloofSALISBURY, MD---Dr. Joan Maloof, faculty in 久久国产精品久久’s Biological Sciences Department, has been selected for a fall residency at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon.

The forest is a National Science Foundation center for long-term ecological research. One ongoing experiment there, started in 1985, is scheduled to last for 200 years. The purpose of the residency program, termed “Long-Term Ecological Reflections,” is to bring together writers, humanists and scientists to create a living, growing record of how we understand the forest and the relation of people to the forest, as that understanding and that forest both change over time.

The residency program, which started in 2003, also is planned to continue for 200 years, creating a long-term collection of reflections. Each spring and fall one scientist or writer is selected for a week-long residency. Creative writers whose work reflects a keen awareness of the natural world and an appreciation for both scientific and literary ways of knowing are invited to apply.
