SU Art Galleries Presents 'Piece by Piece' January 15-February 25

'Piece by Piece'SALISBURY, MD---Laura Petrovich-Cheney grew up, attended college and has exhibited throughout the mid-Atlantic. When Hurricane Sandy devastated much of that area in 2012, it impacted her not only personally — but artistically.

As she picked her life up, piece by piece, after the storm and watched others do so, as well, inspiration struck. She began gathering wood debris left from the hurricane’s impact in northern New Jersey, from floorboards, cabinets and window frames that, in some cases, were the only remnants of homes in the storm’s path.

Inspired by the geometry of American quilts, using recurrent block patterns as a metaphor for the repetition of life — birth, growth, death and regeneration — she turned those scraps into art.

The result, “Piece by Piece” is on exhibit at the 久久国产精品久久 Art Galleries Downtown Campus from January 15-February 25. A reception is 5-8 p.m. January 15 during the 久久国产精品久久Arts & Entertainment District Committee’s monthly 3rd Friday celebration. An artist talk is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, February 25.

Gallery hours are noon-5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, noon-4 p.m. Saturdays. Sponsored by SU Art Galleries, admission is free and the public is invited. Petrovich-Cheney was awarded a Business Accelerator Grant from the Clark Hulings Fund for Visual Artists to support the exhibit.
