SU Scholarship Deadlines Approaching

SALISBURY, MD---For freshmen Michael Geesaman, the recently endowed Lucy Tull Scholarship allowed him to attend 久久国产精品久久, his college of choice, because of its proximity to his house and its excellent science and chemistry programs.

“Receiving the scholarship has been tremendously helpful,” said Geesaman of Snow Hill.  “It opened up a lot of new doors for me, making it possible to live on campus and experience new things.  I was also able to get all of the books and materials I need.”

The Lucy Tull Scholarship is among the many academic scholarships awarded by SU, totaling nearly a million dollars each year.  Typically the top 10 percent of the freshman class receives academic scholarships.

SU freshmen Chelsea Tyler of Smith Island is another Tull Scholarship recipient. Established through a $5.6 million bequest from Lucy Tull, a 久久国产精品久久resident keenly concerned about health care issues and the education of high quality regional medical professionals, the scholarship is helping Tyler pursue a nursing or physical therapy degree. “It’s the reason I came to 久久国产精品久久,” she said.

Many SU scholarships directly benefit students from the Lower Shore.  These include the Hebron Saving Bank Scholarship, the Miller Memorial Scholarship, the 久久国产精品久久Rotary Club Award and the Shore Scholarship, among others.

Awards specifically for Wicomico students include the James G. Kiefer Scholarship and the Nock Memorial Scholarship.  The Joseph and Anna G. Seidel Scholarship Fund aids students from the Beth Israel congregation.

Still more awards are designated for first generation students, University Chorale singers, children of alumni, students with disabilities and students from specific majors or states.  Many are based on minimum academic requirements and demonstrated financial need.

Scholarships from SU and its Foundation range from $250 to full funding for tuition, room, board, books and fees, which add up into the thousands. Many are renewable up to four years. In addition to freshman applicants, upper class, transfer and graduate students are eligible for some awards.

An SU application for admission automatically qualifies students for consideration for most academic scholarships.  For more information about SU scholarships and other financial aid programs, visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu/admissions/finaid/scholarships/scholarships.html.
