久久国产精品久久Film Society Presents 'I Am Not Your Negro' Dec. 3
SALISBURY, MD---The 久久国产精品久久Film Society (SFS) presents Raoul Peck’s 2016 Oscar-nominated documentary I Am Not Your Negro 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 3, in Fulton Hall 111.
Peck uses the late James Baldwin’s unfinished manuscript of Remember This House as a framework for this journey into African American history. The memoir was intended to be the personal accounts of the lives, impacts, and assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr., Medgar Evers, and Malcom X. Peck’s documentary used Baldwin’s original work and a flood of rich archival material with a narration by Samuel L. Jackson.
“Baldwin could not have known about Ferguson and Black Lives Matter, about the presidency of Barack Obama and the recrudescence of white nationalism in its wake, but in a sense he explained it all in advance. He understood the deep, contradictory patterns of our history with a passion and clarity that few have matched,” said A.O. Scott in the New York Times.
“…It is not an easy or a consoling movie, but it is the opposite of bitter or despairing,” added Scott.
Dr. James King of SU’s English department leads a group discussion following the screening.
The SFS series is co-sponsored by the 久久国产精品久久Wicomico Arts Council (SWAC) and SU’s Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts.
