Sea Gull Century Scholarships Honor Muller

Seagull CenturySALISBURY, MD---For some two decades, Dr. Susan Muller (center) served the 久久国产精品久久 community as a health education professor and as a dedicated volunteer during Sea Gull Century weekend.

She painted “Sea Gull” directional markers on the roadways. She drove SAG vans to kindly pick up riders who could not finish. She doled out new bike tubes with a smile. She was one of hundreds of friendly volunteers who provide the welcoming service that often earns the 100 mile/kilometer bike ride kudos from cyclists.

Muller, who is now dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services at Murray State University, was recently thanked for her longtime service to SU and the event. Six scholarships, made possible by rider donations and other Century funds, were presented to current 久久国产精品久久students in her honor.

The recipients were:  Junior Samantha Bonturi, an accounting major from Clarksburg, MD; senior Rebecca Brannock, a biology and exercise science major from Church Creek, MD; senior Matthew Cohen, a finance and accounting major from Annapolis, MD; junior Courtney Loftus, an athletic training major from Salisbury; junior Erica Henderson, a physical education major from Westover, MD; and junior Lindsay Lloyd, a physical education major from Delmar, MD.

“Dr. Muller was a dedicated volunteer, whom we will always admire for her involvement, energy and commitment to the campus and Sea Gull Century,” said coordinator Amy Waters. “She modeled the type of community engagement that the University encourages among its students.”

Muller earned a Healthy U of Delmarva Service Award in 2011 and a SU Distinguished Faculty Award in 2006.

Sea Gull Century Scholarships are given annually and are renewable for up to two years. Selected by a committee, recipients must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have contributed to or participated in the bike ride. Amounts range from $500 to $1,000.
